Jun 22, 2007 23:28

20 June - Returned back to Taipei from Tainan via normal fast train. Spent some time at the National Taiwan Museum looking at exhibits regarding Aboriginal life in Taiwan (原著民). The museum is located in the 228 Memorial Park. Dinner was steamboat in eastern Taipei (南京东路) where I got to know a few new friends from Malaysia. My host in Taipei really have friends all over the world! I am so impressed.

21 June - My host and some friends rented a car to bring us out of Taipei city. First stop - Tamsui (淡水) where we visited the old streets of Tamsui and Shalun Beach. Tamsui river is where Taiwanese from Mainland China first came to settle in Taipei. Hence, the district is historically significant. Lunch was at a nice eatery selling pork ribs rice. It has an interesting name - (黑店). Next stop was Jin Bao Shan(金宝山), somewhere along the northern coast of Taiwan that housed the tombs, columbarium and cemeteries. The attraction there was the tomb of famous singer, Teresa Teng. On route back, we had a ride through scenic Yang Ming Shan (阳明山). Dinner was home-cooked food among friends.

22 June - Went suntanning at Shalun beach before heading to visit a host of tourist attraction in the afternoon. These include Bao An Temple (保安宫), Martyr's Shrine (忠烈祠), Long Shan Temple (龙山寺) and Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall (国父纪念馆). Dinner was at Hua Hsi Street Night Market (华西街夜市) also known as Snake Alley where delicacies were served containing snake meat. Eeks!
