Heartstrings

Recently I've been rather into Korean dramas and watched a lot (even though there are sooooo many more to go - YAY!!!!). I prefer the lighthearted, funny romance comedies since I think they're the most entertaining ones. My most recent Korean drama (actually finished it today) is Heartstrings or You've Fallen For Me. There is a good recap site here if you want to read the episode summaries.

The drama is about a girl and a boy (of course) and a lot about music playing and performance; about friendship and pursuing your dreams;  about young people in college/university striving for a bright future. It has the Buzzer Beat-feel, with the hero and heroine encouraging and supporting each other in the way of chasing their dream.

Plotwise I'm not too impressed, the intrigues are laughable, so NOT believable or even entertaining, and the villain who is trying to make life hard for everybody (well mostly for the director who is responsible for the performance in the show, because he is jealous of the director) does things illogical - I mean, WHAT is his problems?? What is his purpose of doing things? And why is he changing in the last episode and becoming good all of a sudden? T_T

Unlike Riko (who was really sympathic) in Buzzer Beat I was annoyed with the heroine Kyu-won most of the time, because she was such a tactless girl, with no sense of timing or when it was apprioate to say things and when not, always misunderstanding when her boyfriend tries to confess or comfort her. Park Shin-hye who is acting Kyu-won however is cute (sometimes really pretty) and has a wonderful voice. I love her singing.

I have to admit, what made me watch this drama in the first place was because of Jung Yong-Hwa. I first saw him in You're Beautiful where he was also starring with Park Shin-hye, but as a second lead. As he is a real eye-candy and the male lead isn't (not even his cool character could make him appeal to me), it irked me that Jung Yong-Hwa wouldn't get the girl in the end (even though he played the nice guy - why is it that the nice guy never gets the girl???), I was wondering how he would pull through as the male lead in another drama.

He isn't an amazing amazing actor, but he is good enough (and good enough good-looking to stare at, so who cares if he can't act? XDD), portraying the cold and unfriendly bastard in the beginning and then show his gentle and supporting side to his girlfriend. Actually, his character is too good to be true, but well, you're always allowed to dream, right?

I've always had a thing for guys who plays the guitar (or the piano) and sings. Kind of melts your heart, doesn't he? ♥

Aside from Jung Yong-Hwa I think that the best with this drama is da music. They're playing and singing a lot in the drama and the cool thing is that another guy (the drummer) from the band CN Blue is starring in this drama too. CN Blue consists of four guys, quite enough unlike Super Juniors of whom I don't even know how many members there are.

I also very much liked their traditional string instrument and when they mix traditional with contemporary pop music. Overall, I think the music was really good, so maybe I should grab the OST. ^^
