Keep In Touch - Chapter 21

Summary: You discover how lonely life can be as the best friend of an idol.

Super Junior returned to the front of the stage to sing One Fine Spring Day. The boys of SHINee stayed on stage to provide backup vocals, save for Taemin. He took your hand and led you off stage, finding an empty spot on the dance floor. He took your arms and put them around his neck, placing his own around your waist. He looked you in the eyes and smiled as you started to sway.
“Remember when I told you that I didn’t really like the idea of you having a boyfriend? Well, I think I’m okay with it now.” He said.
“What changed your mind?” You asked.
“I want it to be me.” He whispered.
“Taemin…”
You felt his lips connect with yours before you could say any more. He laughed lightly and smiled to himself, a little embarrassed.
“I feel the same way.” You admitted.
“I’m glad.” Taemin smiled.
“When did you realize that you wanted to be more than best friends?” You asked.
“That weekend when we did the music video shoot with Super Junior. It was just so long since we last saw each other and I realized how much I missed you all these years…I missed you a lot.” Taemin chuckled nervously.
“I missed you too, Taemin…So much. When you weren’t here, it was like I was missing half of me.”
Taemin pulled you in closer and hugged you.
“You’re never going to be missing half of you again…From now on, you’ll always be whole. I’ll always be here, even if it’s not physically.” He whispered in your ear.
You smiled and hugged him back.
“So what was it about me that made you want to be more than best friends?” You were still in too much shock to call yourselves a couple.
“I like the way you’ve always only looked at me, the way a sunflower always looks at the sun. It’s like I said; I’ve always been the only guy you needed and I’ll always be the only guy you need. I’ll be the sun and you’ll be my sunflower.” He looked into your eyes and smiled.
“We’ve always been there for each other. You’re the only guy I need and I’m the only girl you need.” You added.
Taemin spent the rest of the night on and off of the stage. But no matter where he was, you were with him. For the rest of the night, the two of you were inseparable. It was clear to see how blissful you both were.
No matter what happened, this night was perfect; it was like a dream come true. You were on cloud nine now that Taemin was back in your life and he was back in yours. He felt the exact same way about you.
I was about 11:20 now and it was almost time to leave. Super Junior and SHINee would each sing one last song before the night was over.
“Let’s keep in touch, alright? Right now we’re gonna end the night with Keep In Touch!” Kibum said.
Taemin led you off stage again to dance with you.
“This is our song now, ________. We’re going to keep in touch forever, no matter what.” He declared.
“Pinky swear?” You asked as you held out your pinky.
His finger hooked into yours and you knew that you would both keep that promise. It wasn’t long before the song was over and it was SHINee’s turn to sing.
“We’re going to end the night now with a slow song.” Onew announced.
Everyone found their special someone and partnered up as SHINee began to sing Quasimodo. Taemin held you tightly and started to sway.
“I had an amazing night.” You said.
“Me too.” Taemin agreed.
Then he said the three words that everyone waits their whole life to hear.
“I love you.”
You hugged him tightly and whispered in his ear.
“I love you too.”
