My studies of law have made me realize that there is essentially no use for our vaunted "federalism" and that it primarily serves to make things complicated and inhibit interstate business. In this day and age there is no longer any need for the states as separate entities. The federal government is already powerful enough to support itself, and the duties undertaken by the states may still be handled by state-like systems. However, the thing that will change is that we should unify the laws of these state-like systems, and put them all in a direct hierarchy in the federal government.
I mean, who the hell are we kidding if we think the "states" as states actually check federal power? The last time the states tried to check federal power there was a war and the federal government won. GG states.
What states really do is tax the members of other states with absurd things like out of state tuition, toll bridges, and other sorts of taxes that apply to any sort of goods or services. In addition there are states like deleware, which make bizarre corporation friendly laws such that EVERYBODY wants to be incorporated there, but nobody actually builds a factory or works there. What the hell is up with that? It's just stupid, that's what!
So yeah, lets abolish the states as separate entities. We can keep the bounderies and use them for under-systems of the federal government which will administer most of the duties the states do currently. All redundant duties will be given directly to the feds, and we'll only have to pay one set of taxes every year. Hooray!
While we are at it:
Why doesn't the world have simultaneous time? By simultaneous time I mean that when it is 12:00 here it is 12:00 everywhere. Granted the sun will be in different places depending where you are in the world, but it will always be 12:00. You might think this is confusing, but in reality, for anybody staying in one place it would be just the way it is currently, except that instead of the sun being high in the sky at 12:00, it might be high in the sky around 4:00, or 23:00 (we should have a 24-hour clock too if we do this).
Basically, the idea is this, instead of having to do lots of annoying math to adjust to the sun, we should say screw the sun, and make the time consistant the world over. When you touch down at your destination you can figure out where the sun is by looking in the sky. No stupid math required, no resetting watches required, etc.
This would make things much more convenient and efficient. Oh yeah, and we would say fuck daylight savings time too. Daylight savings and a 12 hour clock are just stupid ways to keep the number of the hours coinciding with the position of the sun. Fuck the sun and we can do away with all this stupidity and impose uniform, simultaneous time everywhere. It would be great.
