Hey guys and gals!
Japan is treating me better nowadays. The social crap is mostly worked out (though Elmer is still a dumbass, I doubt anything will ever change that), which is very nice.
I've been exploring the local temples and shrines with a vengeance, and I've been particularly focusing on the komainu, the shishi guardian statues that appear in pairs before many Japanese religious structures. They're kinda adorable, in a fiercesome kind of way. Some of them remind me of Stitch-- I wonder if that's why he's so popular here?
Last weekend I went to Kashima Jingu, a major shrine. We saw a traditional wedding party going through the gate, we bought omikuji (fortunes), and we fed the deer.
I also went to my friend's house, and experienced Japanese family life for a couple of hours. Her mom brought us SO MUCH FOOD.
And also last weekend, I took part in an archaeological dig where we worked at unearthing part of a Heian-era storehouse. That was really, really cool.
So... yeah! Japan is awesome! It's autumn, and cold, and I can watch the leaves changing and falling all around me.
