I seem to be in the throes of a movie obsession lately. Went to see The Constant Gardener, which was fantastic, but probably not for those without at least a little Bleeding Heart Liberal in them. :) The two main characters are activists (well, an activist and her diplomat husband) but aren't sickening paragons of virtue-- she lies and keeps secrets for the sake of her cause and often gets carried away, and he isn't as understanding as he should be, and they're wonderful that way. The funeral scene-- I'm trying not to spoil anything, but I seem to suck at not-spoiling-- gives a feeling of just fierce triumph. I'm abusing italics today, too, not that I don't usually.
Then I rented the film version of The Bad Seed, which is beautifully overdone. I also found a film adaptation of The Canterville Ghost, which was heresy against Wilde (the worst form of heresy, in my mind) as they'd turned it into a fluffy silly story without any of the wit or charm of the original, and didn't even set it in the Victorian era, thus taking away even the paltry redemption period costuming could bring. Gah. Still, it was worth snarking at.
I've got a few others sitting around now, though I can't remember what they are and may not have time to watch them before school. Not sure what's up with the sudden movie-geeking, really.
