Day 2. Favourite Dissidia Character/s
8D Oh wow, what a question! I partly covered this in day 1 when I discussed my reasons for choosing a side, however I also rambled on and on about how awesome pretty much everyone is... which doesn't exactly help the matter at hand.

Okay so Firion is my favourite Dissidia Character and it is quite interesting that I picked him because I first got to grips with him in Dissidia!
The main question at hand would be: WHY? I had a very limited playthrough on Final Fantasy 2 'back in the day' as a small child, but sadly the learning curve was great, I did not speak / read Japanese and I failed to appreciate that Firion was amazing - oh to be small and naive! (_ _);;;
Anyway! Present day; I boot up Dissidia: Final Fantasy (the original, not 012) and I go "HELLO FIRION!!!!!" <3ヽ(≧▽≦)ノ <3 (just like that, I swear!)
Firion's was one of the few Destiny Odyssey’s that I actually played through on the first game before I got disinterested with the Destiny Points and ragequitted in favour of simple one on one battles... (￣。￣);;; (I'm not normally this fickle, I swear!). throughout the storyline, I found myself responding to Firion's personality and his plight, not to mention all those lol-worthy moments with his rose and his comrades, and Sephiroth totally deflowering him.
Not to mention he's bloody useful in a fight too! Anyway, I think SE did an amazing job on Firion's characterisation and I've been totally suckered in by it (it's also an extra bonus that his Japanese VA does Soma Cruz and Seto Kaiba who are other fangirl faves of mine!)
So in summary: I adored Firion's Destiny Odyssey, fell in love with his awkward, honest, bashful, blushy nature and found him ridiculously useful in a fight! (I know, I'm sooo shallow! :D )
However! Firion is not my only favourite character, he just happens to be my favourite fangirl object! I also adore the Warrior of Light but I think I'll ramble on about him during Day 21 (Best Original Dissidia Character).
Other Dissidia characters would include;
- Squall (as much as I struggle to accept his strange morphing nature throughout FF8, he was pretty cool visually and I did enjoy FF8 in quite a few respects although it was waaaaaaaaaay too easy!)
- Cloud (how can I not mention Cloud when I absolutely ADORE FF7, it wasn't my first FF but it certainly stuck with me on so many levels and as a result so did Cloud!)
- Laguna (when they added him to Duodecim, I was SOLD!! Who doesn't love Esthar's president? He's just AWESOME, if Moomba's love him then everyone else should NOW DO IT!)
- Kain (FF4 has always been a firm favourite of mine, I find it hard to choose between Kain and Cecil in terms of an ultimate fave but since Kain has been voiced by Liam O'Brien he has won the competition! Also, who doesn't love dark broody dragoons who are so passionately in love with someone that they would turn their blade on their best friend to get that object of desire? )
- Cecil (I have a healthy dose of sympathy for Cecil, he's always getting betrayed by people; the King (although there's a reason for that), Golbez, Kain, etc. Yet, all he seems to want is to help others and be good! Poor Cecil, but don't worry you're awesome in my book!)
- Zidane (do I need a reason to like somebody...? :3 )
- Golbez (he's Final Fantasy's answer to Darth Vader, what's not to fangirl? In addition, he's a cunning and tormented soul who ultimately loves his brother but just doesn't know how to express that love. Golbez is awesome!)
- Jecht (now this a real man's man, Jecht is the captain of awesome put-downs, jokes and generally being a troll both in X and Dissidia! Though he's got a good, solid heart and he used to be a whale, what's not to love?!)
- Sephiroth (he's a pretty cool guy, he destroys planets, stabs Clouds, has a six foot sword and doesn't afraid of anything. I think that sums up Sephiroth pretty much, although there is a lot of back-story there and a fascinatingly tortured soul to boot!)
- Exdeath (what can I say? I like his wood............ ヾ(≧▼≦*) yep. His wood.)
If I were to dissect why I like certain Final Fantasy characters over others, it would take longer than this journal entry that's for sure but at a basic level I think it's to do with several factors; personality, actions, situations and (to a degree) the visual look / style of that character. Each of the characters I've listed has some sort of tragic quality or a wonderfully engrossing personality (except for Exdeath, it's all totally shallow and primal - I'm in it for the wood.)
Even the villains I like aren't exactly 'pure' villains at their roots, but then quite a few FF enemies aren't completely evil there's generally a reason that pushed them, a deep suffering that warped their perceptions and their rationale. I think it's that expression of human suffering and that drive to make a change based on a bad experience that makes the characters understandable, and thus amazingly enthralling!
Now, that's not to say that there has to be a deep meaning behind liking a character and I think sometimes it's just as much fun to simply like a character for something as simple as their Voice Actor, their looks or just because. To some degree, that's how most of my Dissidia passions start from; a simple, small detail that grows in to something bigger and more exciting. I think that's certainly how most of my pairings have begun; from a tiny idea, a brief moment or just because damn those two would look hot together!
Well, that's it ! I love Firion, but I actually adore most of the cast of Dissidia - some for simple reasons and others due to a vast love of the game they represent!
