Toby and I have been gently introducing Cleopatrick to the rest of the house. He's never really been interested in leaving the bedroom, and with all our craft shit downstairs, it's been convenient to just let him stay here, but now that we have some room painting and carpeting jobs coming up, the kitty is going to have to be displaced. And it would also be convenient if we could be comfortable just leaving him out and about, but we've gotta make sure he isn't going to destroy all the things before we let him loose.
At first he was totally timid about coming downstairs. Even when we'd carry him down with us and insist that it was okay, he wanted no part of it, and as soon as we'd put him down, he'd bolt back to the bedroom. He's gradually gotten more comfortable, and will explore a little bit on his own, but still mostly just wants to be near people.
I brought him downstairs with me this afternoon for a bit, but when it was naptime, I gathered my things and prepared to come back upstairs. I said "Cleopatrick, want to go upstairs?" without making any actual movement toward the stairs. But that fucker knew exactly what I meant. He got super excited and ran to the steps, like a dog I'd just invited on a walk. But when he got to the bottom of the steps, he looked back at me, as if to say "Are you sure this is okay?" So I said, "Go ahead, it's okay!" and with that he ran the rest of the way to the room, and was waiting for me on the bed when I got here.
He TOTALLY understands. And the fact that he looked back for reassurance sort of indicates that he's at least trying to be a good boy. It's cute how he didn't seem to realize he could go back upstairs whenever he wanted...he's such a weirdo. I love him :)
