I haven't had a chance to update (still need to figure out this time management stuff), but wanted to post my latest 2 versions of my painting.
Week 4.5
I did this before my last oil painting class - I wanted to get *most* of the waterfall done so that I could focus on other stuff during class. I'm still not 100% satisfied with the waterfall - I need go back with more highlights to show off the beautiful mist and the frothy waters that fall down. Right now, the water seems to be too sectioned off for my tastes.
I did not go back and redo the rocks and outcroppings that are poking out of the water - so those still have an unfinished, raw quality to them.
Week 5
I worked on this during my last oil painting class. Basically, a lot of branches and leaves. I wanted to get the technique down and ask Eric for advice while I could, so I could leave the class with the knowledge I needed to finish the painting.
I really liked the way it turned out. There are about 4 layers of green there. I applied the darks first then layered the lighter shades over them. I used short brush strokes in various directions to simulate the leaves. For the branches, I used a flat brush and short vertical strokes, especially at the thin parts. I added highlights to give the branches a certain depth - not sure if it's viewable on this cell phone picture. The upper branches have some sort of moss hanging off them, hence their variegated thickness.
