Sunflowers in February

Feb 06, 2006 22:10

The white in yellow
stinks of green,
inspiring the blush of viridian
to mirror and rise
in envy.

The sun is red today,
for thirty days, it
shines with brilliant
pride, and claims
ascendence over
yellow;

Perhaps
also to show
how red can crisp all
hues to
brown and black.

For just a moment.

It is said
that each small seed
is greedily hoarded
and counted before
each come of night;
and every morning,
each petal unfurls
to mark the world
of which it owns;
by noon, the white of pride
(aided by green)
is immovable in its own glory,
but by evening...

Light is bleaching
gold to grey
head bows down in shame
to hide
the mockery of self-
uncertainty
that lies,
just lies.

Someone thrust the gift
of flowers
to my chest today.

It fluttered shut.
