dear friends: being that i don't know how to insert audio here, and don't feel like trying very hard, i would encourage to go here and here and listen to great songs about presidents.

i read through that entire website you linked and i still don't really understand what a song-poem is and how it is different from a plain old song.

summary: composers put ads in the newspaper advertising a "co-writing" service--you send in your lyrics, they write the music, and then you make 50% of profits. except that you pay like 150 $ and there are never EVER any profits. so these people send in these "poems" and "lyrics" and then these composers spend about an hour writing music and recording the song. the results are terrible and hilarious and heartbreaking. a beautiful piece of humanity.

ok i understand the "what" and "how" now, but what about the "why"? are these songs produced solely to rip people off or is there an outlet for them?

there is also something totally surreal reading that article to the dulcet sounds of "outkast - hey ya!" and "eurythmics - sweet dreams"
