Social awesomeness on the peninsula

Apr 21, 2009 17:54

I just got a temporary crash pad down in MV for during the week, since TSI is down here on the peninsula and most of my friends are too. I'm moving down to MV later this summer as well. One of the main hopes is that I'll be able to have a more active social life down here than I did in the city.

Today's my first day hanging out in Mountain View after crashing in the new place last night. So far it's been awesome:

- Bumped into ipsafictura at Red Rock and co-worked together for a few hours
- Randomly met George and Yee, two old co-workers who I haven't seen in years, at Red Rock, caught up and co-worked all afternoon
- Semi-spontaneously hooked up with debramcp to check out Barefoot Coffee for more co-working
- Randomly bumped into Paul Tuckfield, another awesome ex-co-worker who I haven't seen in years, at Barefoot
- Missed Matthew, a close friend who I haven't seen in over a year, at Barefoot by 45 minutes (found out from Paul)
- Might be having dinner with my the new roommate (from the aforementioned MV crash pad) later tonight

If today is anything like a representative sample of the sort of spontaneous social interaction I'm going to get down here, Mountain View will be totally awesome.

EDIT: Matthew stopped by Barefoot along with Nora. I made the strange/disturbing discovery that I can recognize Matthew solely from him groping my chest from behind after not seeing him for a year and a half. I'm actually socialed out and switching to introvert recharge time now.

EDIT EDIT: laughingstone SMS'd me while I was parked in front of Tortuga talking to debramcp to drop her off. Didn't see the message until I made it home or there would've been more hangout time there, too.

All these gory details of my social day probably aren't very interesting to y'all, but I'm really just kinda boggled/excited by how much socialness happened today. It's way beyond my expectations, even for a statistical fluke, and it's really heartening to see.
