I'm a little older than most of the people around here. Its a little disturbing because only the CO and the First Sergeant have any significant age gap over me. Maybe thats why its seems everyone starts to behave like they are three at times. Its not that I like being serious all the time, but the posturing and crap got old fast years ago.
Combat here is not like the movies. Its more hide and go seek. We hit them so they dont see it coming, when they hit us you usually never see who does it. Its usually at night and not very visually exciting. This is generally a quiet area. The heavy part is really from the veterans. They used to run around in these Humvees that got hit a lot. They got hit almost everytime they went out and had one of the highest casualty rates for a Battalion in the AO.
This made everyone pretty cynical and effected people in other ways. Some people lost best friends and a lot of them never seemd to have never stopped being pissed off about, well everything. I guess I understand that but, in the civilian world or back on post you dont really live and work with them cheek by jowl, 24/7. Its different.
I feel pretty untouchable in the Victor I roll in . More armor and a higher survival ratio gives you this warm cozy feeling. Its an illusion, because there is stuff out there that can hurt you, but you dont really believe it deep down and thats why I dont really feel worried while mounted. Attacks arent that frequent anyway, so that feeling, the next one could be it, that was around for this units last deployment is gone. Its a new ballgame here and hopefully the odds stay in our favor.
Not sure how to end, only that the next entry should be about something other than the army. No idea what thats gonna be yet.
