Yesterday I made French dip sandwiches (another great French food that isn't French in any way, shape, or form) for dinner along with a salad. Since I was using pre-sliced roast beef, I had no pan juices to make the au jus so I bought some Knorr powdered mix, which was actually pretty tasty.
I had originally hoped for a bottled or jarred sauce instead of having to use powder, but no such luck. There was only one bottled au jus which I declined to buy. After reading the possible usees of said sauce, which included multiple descriptions of the sauce's "hearty beef flavor", I turned the bottle around and read the ingredients.
No beef product was anywhere in there. It was 100% vegetable-based. That reminded me of the pumpkin pie mix with no pumpkin in it.
