I'm exhausted in more ways than one, none of them good...

So why I decided to do a meme at one a.m. beats me, but here you go.

[Book Meme Bella got from Minna who got it from Soraya, and so on...]

1. Which book has been on your shelves the longest?

Uh. Back home, it’s prolly Heidi. Here, PS.

2. What is your current read, your last read and the book you'll read next?

Current: Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk. Last: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon. Next: I’ll prolly finish Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut.

3. Which book does everyone like and you hated?

The Catcher in the Rye. Too whiny. Also, well, the last two books of both Hunger Games and His Dark Materials.

4. Which book do you keep telling yourself you'll read, but you probably won't?

I don’t think I’m ever reading any Lovecraft, although I keep trying to convince myself I should.

5. Which book are you saving for "retirement?"

Retirement is stretching things a bit too far, but I have a book called The Historian which I won’t be reading for a few months. The others are way more interesting.

6. Last page: read it first or wait till the end?

Depends on the book. I’m a curious cat. Look, I just want to know no one I like dies, okay? Didn’t do it with any of the HP books, though.

7. Acknowledgments: waste of ink and paper or interesting aside?

I often read them before starting the book. Lol. I want to know what the author’s sense of humour is like.

8. Which book character would you switch places with?

Wow. Uhm. I have never identified with any book character since I’m such a speshul snowflake, nor have I wanted to be a character. Can I be a Hogwarts student as myself, though? Or - IDK - a gay Dominique’s girlfriend?

9. Do you have a book that reminds you of something specific in your life (a person, a place, a time)?

Yeah. High Fidelity by Nick Hornby. Amusing exploration of the male psyche. I know a lot of males who are similar to the main character.

10. Name a book you acquired in some interesting way.

I’m pretty sure I have a Grisham back home that doesn’t belong to me. I also have no memory of how it came into my hands.

11. Have you ever given away a book for a special reason to a special person?

Yes! I gave my copy of The Book Thief to a friend on her bday because the two bookstores I frequented didn’t have a copy left.

12. Which book has been with you to the most places?

Uh ... Marquez’s Chronicle of a Death Foretold. I’ve had it since third year. The person I loaned my first and second year books to never returned them.

13. Any "required reading" you hated in high school that wasn’t so bad ten years later?

Ten years? Hm. We didn’t do whole books back at high school. Weird, I know. I am also pretty sure I’ll NEVER like Heart of Darkness. I need to retry Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

14. What is the strangest item you’ve ever found in a book?

I’m yet to find an item that can be described as strange.

15. Used or brand new?

Brand new! I don’t mind using second hand things; my first two cell-phones were hand-me-downs. BUT books are special. I like the feeling of crisp pages, of signing my name and date of purchase on the first page. Yes, I am that childish.

16. Stephen King: Literary genius or opiate of the masses?

Need to read a book to decide. Thinking of starting with It. Will prolly end up having nighmares.

17. Have you ever seen a movie you liked better than the book?

LOTR.

18. Conversely, which book should NEVER have been introduced to celluloid?

Percy Jackson, because seriously: WTF.

19. Have you ever read a book that's made you hungry, cookbooks being excluded from this question?

HP books. Rowling is evil. I want to attend a Hogwarts feast, or just be invited to dinner at the Weasleys’.

20. Who is the person whose book advice you'll always take?

I read a wide variety of genres, so I take the suggestions of a wide variety of readers. There are a few people (in real life) whose book advice I’ll NEVER take, though.
