One of the women that boards her horse at the stables where the baby takes her lessons has a teeny tiny pony (almost a miniature she's so little) that she bought at in December as a Christmas present for her granddaughter. Well they didn't know it when they bought her but Sweetie (the pony's name) was pregnant. So on Thursday afternoon they rushed her from the woman's backyard where the pony lives to the stable, and three hours later they had a special little pen built for her and her baby. She delivered her baby Monday. We went for Anastasia's lesson yesterday (wed) and there was this little pony that she immediately spotted. So her teacher took us over to see her and her little Surprise (his name). The two day old foal was curled up sleeping in the corner when we got there, but at the end of her lessons we went back and her teacher took her in to see the baby. He is SO tiny, he has no teeth and he jumps and bucks all over the pen on his still wobbly legs. The little guy is smaller than my dog Thorn, and the mother let Anastasia and me pet him and hug and kiss him up a bunch while she stole half of our carrots. I had seen foals before but this was the youngest, and the first time I had been able to get in and love and pet one. Anastasia was thrilled, it made me a little sorry that I didn't raise my other 6 in this type of environment, it's very grounding. I'll post pics after next weeks lesson on myspace. I am SO ready to sell this house and move to the middle of nowhere.
