A Facebook meme transplanted to LiveJournal

A bunch of my Facebook friends have been posting this in their status today:

"In your status line, list 10 books that have stayed with you in some way. Don't take more than a few minutes and don't think too hard--they don't have to be the 'right' books or 'great' books, just ones that have touched you."

Sounds fun! But I'm going to post my list here on LiveJournal because I don't have any better idea for something else to post today. These are in alphabetical order:
  • The Annotated Alice by Lewis Carroll, annotations by Martin Gardner
  • Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson
  • D'Aulaires' Book of Greek Myths
  • The Flying Hockey Stick by Jolly Roger Bradford
  • Glittering Images by Susan Howatch
  • Gospel by Wilton Barnhardt
  • Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J. K. Rowling
  • The Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
  • The Secret of Terror Castle by Robert Arthur
  • World Book Encyclopedia

My first impulse was to include certain series in my list, but since the rules limit me to ten, I selected individual books from those series that were particularly meaningful for one reason or another. Generally, it's the first book in the series, because it was generally the first book that made me into a fan of the series. And while it would be fair to say that I was a fan of the Harry Potter books from the first book in the series, it was the fourth book that made me the kind of Harry Potter fan who reads fanfic and has a favorite ship and so on.
