Back in the 1960s and '70s, it was fairly common for department stores and tire manufacturers to issue Christmas record albums every year. I remember my mom owned several of these Christmas compilations, and I remember one in particular that was issued by JC Penney:
The Brightest Stars of Christmas. Actually, it's the album per se I remember -- indeed, I wouldn't have been able to tell you the title had I not Googled "JC Penney Christmas album before composing this entry -- but rather one particular song that was on that album: an instrumental version of "Winter Wonderland" by Danny Davis and the Nashville Brass. I loved that song. A few years ago, when I shared Christmas music via this journal every day during Advent, I looked for that recording of "Winter Wonderland" and was quite disappointed when I couldn't find it.
Yesterday, I was making a Christmas mix CD, and it occurred to me to look for it again. And this time, I found it! Danny Davis himself uploaded it to YouTube around this time last year. I listened to it with a big, stupid grin on my face, and it was just as great as I remembered.
