Three quick notes regarding three new TV shows

1. I've now watched the first two episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., a show I kind of doubt I would have watched if not for the involvement of Joss Whedon. I've always been more of a DC Comics guy, so a TV show based on a Marvel property holds no particular appeal for me, and while I liked the Agent Coulson characters in the Marvel movies I've seen, I wasn't so enamored of him that I felt compelled to watch a show about him. But I do love me some Joss Whedon. I wouldn't say I'm in love with the series after the first two episodes, but it's an enjoyable action show, and I did get a weird thrill from seeing the Mutant Enemy logo at the end of the second episode. It's been too long since I saw that little guy grr-arghing his way across the screen.

2. Sean Saves the World was pretty terrible, which is kind of a miracle, because the cast is well stocked with tremendously funny actors, and the pilot was directed by the legendary James Burrows. On the other hand, maybe that's part of the problem. If you look at a list of sitcoms Burrows has worked on, there's a noticeable decline in quality once you get past the Must See TV era. Maybe that's because he's a multi-camera specialist and the funniest, most innovative sitcoms of the last decade have been single-camera shows, but maybe he's just gotten stale. But maybe he's as good as he ever was, and the show would have been even worse absent his contribution. A scary thought.

3. Welcome to the Family was not the funniest thing ever, and the premise isn't tremendously fresh, but I see some promise there. Mike O'Malley and Ricardo Chavira have good chemistry, and it kept me reasonably amused throughout, so I think it deserves at least five episodes to see if it can live up to its promise.
