I don't know what it was, but the other day I was inspired check out a DVD containing the first six episodes of The Monkees. I was a huge fan of the show when I was a wee bairn and it aired regularly in syndication, but I literally cannot remember the last time I saw an episode. (Not counting the four I've watched off the DVD.)
Watching something you loved as a child is always a dicey proposition, because let's face it, when you're a kid you have terrible taste. But I've been pleasantly surprised by The Monkees. In some ways, it's surprisingly modern. The pacing is snappy, and the episodes are just packed with jokes. Some of them are hoary and old-fashioned, but the truth is they were hoary and old-fashioned when the show was new; in one of the commentary tracks, Bob Rafelson made the point that one of the primary inspirations for the musical romps and the silly sped-up action was the Three Stooges. (The other being Richard Lester's Beatles films, of course.)
Wait, I think I remember! Buffy fandom pal Melissa G. posted "Here comes..." as a Facebook status update, which made me think of this Monkees song:

One of Neil Diamond's finest compositions, if you ask me.
