So. Many of my friends are not excited about the upcoming nuptials. Fair enough. I however, am. Very much so. And unabashedly so. I fully intend to be ensconced in front of the telly on Friday morning, watching Diana's son get married.
I was a wee young'un when Charles married Diana but the day remains a strong memory. And although I'm old enough to be Will's big sister (although not his mother ;)), I feel like I've grown up with him. To watch him now get married feels like coming around full circle. Whatever may be said about the British Royal Family, their influence continues to be strong. Yes, they are figureheads, trotted out as and when required; but, they hold a powerful pull in many countries amongst many people. The billions of expected viewers are testament to that.
And I'm genuinely pleased for both William and Kate. If any royal marriage has a chance of actually lasting and the couple being happy, they have the best chance that I've seen in ages. Time will tell, but for now, I'm looking forward to some pomp and spectacle on Friday morning :D.
