don't just stand there like that

So. Yesterday I delivered a small package, containing a humble bracelet and a handwritten note, to a certain Corinna.
It was extremely awkward. She appeared to appreciate my compliment to her brains, but only remarked, "You could have just asked for my number."
This response confused me slightly, as seeming not quite in proportion to the effort that had been expended on her. I told her that it was important that she receive the information in the note. I then asked for her number.
She gave it me, and we parted ways, in a strangely subdued and almost curt fashion.

I felt somewhat confused and a little dismayed. Did it go well? I couldn't really say. But the thing was accomplished, which must be a good thing.
And now I had ahead the difficult task of calling her and... you know, talking to her. Presumably asking her out, somehow.

She emailed me that night. Exciting.
She has a boyfriend. Disappointing.
But she is still interested in getting to know me.

I emailed her back, thanking her for the information and affirming that friendship is still desirable.
I felt rather terrible about the whole thing, however.
So much effort, feels a little wasted.

Well. I suppose that is the way it goes.
