As
alluded to life has been a little hectic between my
last trip back to the UK in March and now. As well the
cultural exploration,
resume embiggening and
work shininess I've spent a fun break in Dubai with my uncle's family1, completed my SCUBA Open Water in
Malaysia and enjoyed a wonderful week in
Singapore with
euphuistica (and her friend Sonja) that she's written up so much better than I would (though there should be photos to follow)
In between these things there's a few pebbles I wouldn't want to lose: dinner with Paul and Lenny, sipping gin on their balcony; finally being able to spend an evening just Matt and I talking nonsense; finally seeing Phantom of the Opera and enjoying the familiarity of it despite it being the first time; the third boat party,
Pimp My Boat, despite my costume shedding buttons like a moulting cat; a suprisingly art-house version Oliver Twist - we were expecting 'Food, Glorious Food' and got 'Death, Death, Death' and 'I Want To Be A Tree'; a brace of birthday parties followed by brunch on the 70th floor, overlooking the bay; being involved with the burgeoning malt whisky scene, including tasting a 40 year old Bruichladdich; and an evening of artistic expression, where we were let loose with watercolours and wine
Perhaps the pebbles surprise me most. Not that they're there, but the specifity of them. I came out here expecting richness along certain axes, richness that is there without a doubt, but I found it in places I expected there to be a paucity as well. Because of the pebbles, and because
euphuistica has been persuaded to come out here, I suspect I may being staying a little while more. Not forever, probably not more than a couple of years, but enough to take advantage of the career opportunities out here and explore a little more - explore myself, explore Asia, explore our relationship when we're on the same landmass
Of course, it does mean more excuses for visits from you too, dear readers and most excellent friends
1Yes, I owe you a write-up, it's coming!
