I was encouraged to do this. My list is big and nebulous, and so I release it to the universe.

Whee!

Step 1

* Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

* If you wish for real life things (not stories or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

* Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two

* Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

* If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use-or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free-do it.

* You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf-to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not-it's your call.

* There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might cometrue. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

1. A job in the birth community in or near Ithaca, NY.

2. A used car out of which we will get a couple of years of consistent running before the need for Big Repairs begin.

3. Contacts in Ithaca -- people you think I would be friends with, restaurants I should try, businesses I should know about, Doctors, Dentists, hair salons, anything.

4. Promises that people won't forget me when I'm no longer a subway ride away -- pen or e-pals.

5. Offers of couchspace for the new year so I can again be a subway ride away!

6. Amazon is my friend. Wishlisty goodness: http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/3RMFTNFEM8LIA/

7. Did you know that Tompkins county has the highest gas rates in NY? When gas prices in Manhattan were $2.29, gas in Ithaca was $2.47. Seriously. I will need gas cards. Mobile, Citgo, these I can picture where they are. I think there's an Exxon, too. But with the traveling back to the city and wandering the country for weddings and holidays, I believe we will use any gas card you give.

8. All words of encouragement and reassurance that getting out of a city we don't love and moving to a city we do love is a wise decision are most welcome. Success stories of others who have picked up and moved their whole life also appreciated. Just feeling a little wobbly over here.

9. Anybody want to practice ASL with me? Especially if you know someone in Ithaca who's learning or already pretty good and would hang out and practice. I took an intro course in nursing school, and it's slipping away.

10. Oh, let's go with peace on Earth. I've asked for a whole lot of big things here, I might as well just go for broke. :)

Thanks for reading!
