ANCHORAGE - The UAA Department of Theatre and Dance presents Oliver Goldsmith’s She Stoops to Conquer, February 29 - March 16, 2008, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., Sundays at 3:00 p.m. at the UAA Mainstage Theatre.

A delightfully charming satire that has entertained audiences since 1773, She Stoops to Conquer follows a well-to-do young man too shy to woo ladies of his own class.   Whatever will the young man do? Is he doomed to be forever alone?  Fear not, for an intrepid young lady poses as a serving girl to win his heart. Through a series of hilarious turns of plot, crazy characters and country bumpkins in the best tradition of the Restoration comedy, Goldsmith takes the audience on a wild ride through 18th century England.  Don’t miss the fun, and be ready to fall in love just in time for spring.

The cast of the show includes Adrienne Eberhardt who, in addition to being a theatre major, is a member of the first class in the 49th State Fellows Program.  Adrienne is playing the part of Kat Hardcastle who stoops to conquer poor shy Mr. Marlowe played by Bradford Jackson, a newcomer to UAA’s mainstage.  In addition, the costumes have been designed by student Christina Gomez for Honors in Theatre.  Rounding out the cast are Luke Bartholomew as Mr. Hardcastle, Julie Voss as Mrs. Hardcastle, and Jon Minton and Alyssa Barnes as our other young lovers, Mr. Hastings and Miss Neville.

Silliness preserved! The cast obviously has too much time on their hands, to judge from the send-ups they’ve posted on YouTube.  The corny, fun spots can be viewed on YouTube under the title … check this now … She Stoops to Gossip.
