So I spent pretty much the last 3 days off in Azeroth. Taking only a few breaks here and there to have a normal life.
WoW has gotten so much better. Playing it has been a ton of fun and the new way to level/quest is really cool. The quests are great and interesting and the game has come a long way from how it was when I played Vanilla back in 2005.
For the first time since Earth and Beyond (I still have the poster hanging in my room...I know I never change -_-) I'm really enjoying an MMO. And perhaps I have not logged this much straight time into a computer game in a given period since Star Craft 1. (Being as how my current job fucked me with SC2)
After Earth and Beyond, I tried and wasted tons of money on countless MMORPG computer games. My old friend Matt Helfgott can tell you, how I'd often briefly play many a game with them. Often quitting a week or two into it (after spending the money on the game and the gametime card for 3 months!) I tried them all, City of Heros, Star Wars Galaxies, Eve Online, I even made an attempt at Everquest 1 back in the day. With the exception of Galaxies and Eve Online, I didn't stick with them. Even those I didn't really last long in. However, my previous attempts at WoW never yielded much. A lot of it had to do with being in college and unable to afford a computer that could handle it, the rest had to do with laziness and "real life."
When I started playing the trial version of WoW again last week, I didn't think I'd really get back into it. But man is this new system addicting. I've always loved the story of Warcraft. All the way from Warcraft 2, its an interesting fantasy adventure. Being able to be a part of living Warcraft History in WoW is a huge appeal. When I spoke to Matt Helfgott last week and he told me that we revived the Sunwell...Well that just sealed the deal right there.
Blizzard games have been a part of my life since 7th grade. I was 12 years old when I first played Warcraft 2 with Tom B. When I heard from Matt that we revived the sunwell and I missed all that action I was like"damn what the hell am I doing with myself?!" I think back to other famous moments in Blizzard history I was there for....I was there when Jim Raynor was betrayed and then joined forces with Fenix and the Protoss...I was there when we cast Mephisto's soul stone into the fire in D2, and I was there when Arthas led the attack that destroyed the Sunwell and Quel'Thalas in Warcraft. On top of many more fun and cool moments in these games.
Now the interesting part of this letter. On March 12, 2001 the clan in Star Craft known as XG6 was formed. While we had some fun, had members from crazy places, had some fights against other clans and even each other, the best part of this was that it was a way to hangout with my friends when we couldn't always do so in real life. As the years went by, the interest in the games came and went. XG6 was now just a prefix to place in front of our names to show we were friends in real life. We traveled game to game...from Star Craft we went to Diablo 1 and 2, Warcraft 2 and 3, Red Alert 2, Bridge Commander, and a few others I'm probably forgetting.
My point to all of this is simply this, I know that life has gone by. We're all older and are a lot busier now. But if we can somehow all play WoW together, that'd be freaking awesome. We all learned through our great friend Mark Matonti that LANing is cool. It became a weekly thing for a while when I was in college and something I looked forward to. We don't need a WoW LAN (what kind of n00b plays WoW at a LAN party anyway ;)? ) But it sure would be fun to play some games with everyone again, especially since most of you have way more WoW experience than I do. I'm on the server/Realm Ghostlands. Monique is as well. My brother also has made a character there, and is expressing interest in transferring one of his other guys over. If any of you wanna join me, I'm alliance, my name on there is Agerold, and my realid is Bearaguy@aol.com.
Hit me up if you're in or just wanna chat. Until next time friends.
