tom petty

when you've been doing something for over 30 years, it really shows. the band was 100% spot on, Tom Petty hit all his cues and pretty much conducted it like a Maestro. and even though it was in a large outdoor stadium type venue, he worked the crowd like he was in a tiny club, and you felt like it was a very intimate experiance. song highlights of the night include, but were not limited to: "I won't back down" (one of my all time favorite songs), "Free Fallin", "American Girl", "Refugee", "It's good to be King", "Waiting for tonight" and "Learning to fly" (another all time favorites). As old as he his, he still has a tremendous stage presence, and played from about 8:45 till 11pm without ever slowing down. The crowd (which to me was shockingly young (a strong under 18 crowd)) was very full of energy, and we all sang through about 85% of the songs.

here is a picture of the venue (i know it's fuzzy, but it's the best one i could get off my camera phone!)

you can't make it out, but to the right is the entire chicago skyline. it was really a beautiful, and lovely night as well, with temperatures in the low 60's / upper 50's.
