The Scary Stairs

My office is on the third floor of this building. I generally take the elevator going up, but I take the stairs going down (cuz a little extra exercise never hurt anyone). As I was leaving yesterday, a co-worker said, "Goodnight. Oh, you are taking the scary stairs?" I chuckled and assured him that the stairs weren't scary, though they do have that

Yikes! How weird is that?

There are tunnels between the buildings where I work, and if there's inclement weather I will take them for errands. A lady in my office once asked if I wasn't afraid someone could grab me down there, and I said no, that it was rare to see anyone, and then it was just other administrative type personnel, nobody scary. I'll be darned if that very same day I wasn't walking through the tunnels and a man who looked like Hagrid from Harry Potter approached me and asked directions. I wasn't frightened, but it was almost like I was supposed to learn a lesson. My instincts told me he was a gentle giant, but certainly if he'd wanted to hurt me he could have, being about three times my size.

Yes, I always try to be aware of when I could be vulnerable. Kind of sucks to have to keep such things in mind, but that's life in the big city, I guess.

For half a second after I saw the underwear, I thought that maybe they could have fallen out of someone's gym bag or something like that...but then I wondered how they got on top of the ledge. I still have no idea.

The really strange thing is that lots of people from my office take those stairs, yet I haven't heard anyone else mention it.
