He marked their special day with a Hallmark card...
passed her in the hallway and looked at her in that special way... that he does when he has something important to say.
He couldn't say it though.
It ran through his mind for a long time. Thoughts of her made his breath short like a battle rhyme.
Now was the time though.
He wanted to tell her that he wanted her.
Felt he needed to tell her that he needed her.
Needed her like a newborn to a breastfeeder.
His intentions couldn't have been sweeter.
But, he didn't quite know if she saw him the way he saw her.
Bought the card on a Tuesday at the local Wallgreens..
thought the green in the four by eleven card matched the green in her eye gleem-
Stood at the card shelf for over fifty minutes...
till his leg got stiff, sifting card by card
so he'd pick... the most special one...
Finally found the right one at twelve minutes after one.
It said exactly what he wanted to say, didn't have the moxy to write it in his way
so he did it this way.
It read: To someone very special
A person that I love...
You are the only one for me
I place you hight above.
That takes it back to the beginning though,
and he passed the Hallmark in the hallway
and she smiled at him the way she does
and it was Wednesday the twelfth of September and she said she returned the love.
It took three dollars and fifty cents a whole lot of sifting and an adolescent males innocence...
but he did it.
Just took one card.
