Update on Uganda's anti-gay laws: Apparently gay people seeking refuge from Uganda will be tracked down and extradited back to Uganda to face their punishment.
Did I mention that Christianity is responsible for the conception and widespread popularity of this law? Yeah, it's all about God. All that money poured in to religious missionary organisations has lead to the spreading of this vile hatred. And homophobia is the appropriate term here. They hate because they are scared, they are terrified that God will smite them down like he did to Sodom in the bible.
Am I a little bit pissed? Yes. I am angry that people from prosperous nations have gone to third world countries and told them that God has granted them the power to live in skyscrapers, to have food on our tables every night, and to have great military might, and that the same spoils can be gained by any followers of Jesus, and those who don't follow will be left in darkness, or destroyed by God. I am angry that people are having their lives threatened because of who they love, to the point where if they run they will be hunted down. I am angry that in 2012, people in Nigeria are STILL being burned as witches, with much the same nefarious finger pointing that America saw in the Salem witch hunts. I am angry that this year, in Ireland, a woman who was miscarrying a baby, meaning the baby had no hope of survival, died from complications resulting from the miscarriage, and that this dead could have been prevented had the woman been granted an abortion. She was refused because the doctors were catholic, quoting "this is a catholic country", and since the baby had a heart beat they equated killing the dying baby to save the mothers live with murder.
This has to stop. There is no place for stupid beliefs in this day and age, especially when people are suffering greatly because of the superstitious beliefs of others.
