So last week wasn't the best. I mean, I'm getting the hang of law school and I have a fun group of people I'm slowly starting to be friends with, so it wasn't bad. But it wasn't the best. Two of my favorite authors (Madeleine L'Engle and Robert Jordan) both died; my fantasy football lost by ONE point; I accidentally bought something I could have gotten for free (in fact, I did get it for free. I now have twice as many pant-reflector things for when I ride my bike as I want); I was so lost in one of my classes, I not only confused everyone else in the room, but the professor also..); and Daniel Jackson ascended. Okay, I get it -- nothing terrible, I should quit complaining. But nothing to really pick me up as super exciting. And a few other (more important) things I won't mention didn't go the way I'd hoped, which bummed me out.
Needless to say, I was good and ready for last week to be over and for the weekend to start! :-)
Friday night started out with free dinner at Google with Andy. It was nice to relax, chat and spend some time in the massage chair in Andy's lobby. While I was sitting there, there was a bright flash and a loud bang outside. We didn't know what happened, no one saw anything and decided it was lightening. However, growing up in FL, I'm pretty familiar with lightening ... and unless the bolt struck the lobby of the building we were in, it wasn't lightening. After dinner, I went to SJC to pick up Saeed and learned that the flash+bang was his airplane. Apparently, it electro-statically discharged during descent. Is that supposed to happen? Is it bad? Should I never trust Southwest again? Saeed was okay, but still. It's so strange to me that I actually *saw* it happen!
Saturday we went to In-N-Out burger, to the SF Zoo, to Chinatown for dinner and to see "Good luck Chuck." It was a pretty fun filled, touristy day :-) The SF Zoo is definitely worth the trip. It's right next to the water too, so I wish we hadn't been so hungry when we left. It would have been nice to walk on the beach a little bit! Sunday was just as full since we picked up Alisa and went to Santa Cruz. In Santa Cruz, we stood on one boardwalk and watched the seals play (I felt like I was back at the zoo!) and then walked up and down the "Boardwalk." Santa Cruz has this permanent carnival along the beach where we got a HUGE donut. We ate lunch on the beach under the watchful eye of the seagulls (even puffed up and squawking, they failed at scaring us away from our food) and then headed back to return Saeed to the custody of SJC.
I made dinner for my study group tonight and returned to the wonderful world of law school work. Next week will be crazy busy since I have my first "Pro Bono" assignment on Monday, a paper due on Thursday and my first editing assignment for STLR (a journal -- I'm working on an article about RFID and privacy)! Luckily, I have absolutely no plans for next weekend (well, except a trip to Bed, Bath and Beyond), so I'll have time to catch up on work and sleep if anything slips :-) Every week in law school adds another layer to my life and this week is no exception. Pretty soon, it's going to be time to start outlining and studying for finals. Crazy.
