I remember, I was talking to a Senator's wife. She made sure to tell me, many times, that she was a senator's wife. In the background, towards the end of the call, I heard some gentleman asking if she was done with tech support. She talked to him for a second, and when she came back on I said, "Oh, is that the Senator?" She laughed, and said "No, that's just my boyfriend."
I still don't know if she was joking.
Once our building caught on fire, but they didn't tell the floor that had Tech Support. I guess they thought the world would be a better place.
I had a caller once talk to me for about ten minutes, and finally ask, "Should my TiVo be on fire?" I calmly told him to call the Fire Department from a neighbor's house, and then, after getting of the phone, I laughed, a lot.
If someone at Tech Support puts you on hold, they are probably making fun of you.
My favorite caller was a gentleman (I use the term loosely,) who called in and couldn't get his computer screen to turn on. I asked him if the little green light on front came on, and he said yes. I asked him to check the plug anyways, just in case. (Callers never know what they're talking about.) He swore at me for about 5 minutes, (because I refused to do anything else until he checked the power cord,) and in the end said that if it was plugged in he was going to come back and swear at me some more, and if it wasn't, he was going to just hang up. I agreed, and sat there with a victorious smile on my face as the line went dead from his end moments later.
I hate people, but at the same time I like them. I like working with people, and I don't know why.
I guess I'm a masochist.
