Some ppl have their secret addictions and for the longest time mine has been reading stories at Fictionpress.net. Don't ask why but I always had a fascination for clichés..falling in love with your brother’s best friend..two ppl who used to be enemies falling for each other..fate pulling two ppl towards each other..everything in those stories are predictable. I remembered I told a friend this..."the best thing about stories is that they are not reality." Isn't that why people read romance - because it's so much better than what's happening in their own love lives? I don't deny it. I'd vouch that reason for myself...I guess it's because I already know how those stories end. Somehow I know that the guy the girl has been in love with for so long has also been secretly in love with her as well. I know that heated arguments sometimes end with a passionate kiss. And the two ppl...the ones that fate decided to bring together will somehow see that all the angst and drama they went through was worth it and they will either move on or make it through together..possibly in days, months, or even years. Don’t believe me? I think I’ve read enough stories to reach a verdict.
A simple cliché story....the good girl falling for the good guy who seems to be everything that his character displays. At first sight she feels drawn to him but does not develop feelings until she gets to know him. Mutual friends think the guy has feelings for her too and repeatedly tells the girl but the girl doesn’t believe it. One simple moment changes everything and the girl realizes "I think I’m in love with him." But then the girl sees that the boy she loves is in love with someone else so she decides to keep her feelings to herself. She tells herself "He’s happy with her" so she is reminded she is doing this for his happiness. He talks about the one he loves constantly to the girl and, being his friend, offers him her advice and words of encouragement when he has problems.
"She loves you, don’t worry."
"Hold her closer when you dance with her."
"Never be afraid to tell her how much she means to you."
The boy smiles and walks away and the girl realizes she just voiced out the things that she’d always hoped he’d do for her. But she didn’t let it bother her. She knew she was doing this because he was first and foremost her friend. But what she would have given for him to just look at her as something more. Months pass and she feels that he is distancing himself away. They argue..he snaps at her...he no longer walks with her to class..she comes in the room but now he doesn’t seem to take notice. It hurt her..that he didn’t seem to want to be her friend and she didn’t know why. But she told herself to give him time and they’ll be okay. It was his graduation and she searched everywhere to give him her present. She carefully selected his present because even though they weren’t speaking as much..she still wanted to be there for him. She finally spotted him. “Happy Graduation!” she said with a smile and gave him his present. He looked down at the bag and hugged her saying, “You didn’t have to.” She returned the hug, hoping he wouldn’t hear her racing heat beat. She said to him, “I know. But I want to.” Before he could reply, he was swept away by family and left without another look her way. The end of summer came and she remembered he was going to be leaving so she decided to call him. She sat on her bedroom rug, waiting for him to answer. He finally picked up and she could feel her heart racing again. “When are you leaving?” He was in a hurry because his plane was boarding in a few hours. “Be careful. When you come back, come visit.” Saying a hurried thank you, he hung up. After a few minutes of hearing the lull sound of his empty end, she put down the phone. At least she got to hear the sound of his voice before he left. Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months and months turned into years. During those years the girl grew up into a young woman. But never had a day passed that she didn’t think of him..wondered when the friend she knew would come back to her. As she grew up she never forgot about him and all that he meant to her. But did he ever think about her at all after he went away? Her love for him was eating away her insides and everyday he was the voice in her head. She trusted him with everything she was.. she knew he'd never hurt her the way others have done in the past. He'd come back to her..she was sure of it. News came that the boy she loved was getting married. She felt her heart break into millions of pieces. What was she to do now? She was torn between keeping her love a secret or telling him before he marries someone else. But she reminded herself, "Why be scared now? He's different from all the others..maybe this is a test of how much you are willing to do for him." How much was she willing to do for him? Was she willing to throw this all away because of her fear or was she willing to tell him that she'd love him enough to let him go? It was a painful decision but she realized she was willing to do just that..let him and the dream of them go. She planned their meeting..searched for him. God answered her prayer and she finally found him. Hearing his voice on the phone after many years really took a toll on her heart. She actually felt it come alive again. This was going to be hard but telling him would be living proof to her that she was strong enough to withstand all the consequences. When she finally saw him...she felt her heart start to race instantly. She knew at that moment that years didn't erase anything..it only made her feelings much stronger. When it came to the time she finally told him, he stepped forward and hugged her tight. He whispered to her that what she said and did meant a lot to him and she knew at that moment that the only thing she was to him was a memory. He reminded her of their past moments and it made her want to cry. She did not want to remember anymore. He left that night with a "good night" and a long hug, promising that everything was going to be okay. Months later, he married. And with that, the young woman dried her empty tears. She was not going to cry for him anymore.
How would you think this story will end?
