When I turn out all the lights...even the night...it only reminds me of you

Last night I had a dream that had upset me as soon as I woke up from it. I remember that before going to bed I was thinking about Patrick’s upcoming birthday and whatever bash he was planning for that day. It didn’t surprise me that he was in this dream of mine, along with Jenny, Manuel, and the rest of the VE alumni. In the beginning of the dream we were in this huge theater, practicing for some performance we were going to be doing. It was break time and Richard was making us laugh with something he said. I turned to Manuel and called him “Honey” (an endearing pet name I’ve penned for him lately) and asked him something. Patrick sits down with us on the stage and asks how many months have Manuel and me been dating, a question which we just laughed at. I tell him jokingly, “Oh it’s been years!” and at the corner of my eye I see that Brian (who was walking passed us when he heard) had stopped and turned to look at me. I noticed but didn’t acknowledge his presence. Manuel does and says, “Don’t say it like that. Someone we know will get mad.” I shake my head at him, trying to steer the conversation away from whatever direction he wanted it to go, and turned my attention to Jenny who was asking me about some music we were learning for the performance.

The scene changes and I am at this house. It looked like a typical get together and all VE alumni were present. I remember walking into the living room and I was laughing about something Manuel, who was trailing behind me at that time, had said. I didn’t notice someone was walking the opposite direction of us but Manuel did and said, “Hey!” I turn around and the smile on my face quickly faded away when I came face to face with Brian. He was about to say something to me when I heard someone yell my name out really loud from across the room. I smile when I see it was Jenny and Kim J. Saying a quick but polite “Excuse me” to both men, I walk off and sit on the rug with the two girls. I overhear Manuel from where I’m standing. “What’s your problem? You okay?” he says to Brian. “What’s my problem? What’s HER problem?!” Brian asks. Manuel, not getting who he was referring to, replied, “Who are we talking about?” “Jaen! Every time I’m around her she doesn’t even notice I’m there.” From the sound of his voice I could tell he was angry, an emotion I rarely have seen him in when I knew him. Manuel gives him a long look, and answers. “Dude, what’s up with you? You guys were friends before.” And then came the reply that really upset me:

“Your friend is the one with the problem. I didn’t do anything wrong.”
