I wanted to know who was nominated for the Oscars because I was following the Golden Globes. Pertaining to the Golden Globes, I am happy to say that DreamGirls won three of the five Golden Globes it was nominated for: Best Supporting Actress Jennifer Hudson (who I think was the real lead actress in the movie and is someone who tried to do American Idol, but was voted off), Best Supporting Actor Eddie Murphy, and Best Picture for a Musical or Comedy. I don't know how many of you actually care to see a movie that features blacks, but it's a good movie if you liked Rent or something close to it.
So anyway, what I was really here to talk about are the nominations for Pan's Labyrinth and The Departed. Pan's Labyrinth (El Laberinto del Fauno) is a really good movie that I just finished watching about half an hour ago. It's really good, but a bit, more than a bit, on the depressing side. But apparently the experts agree, Pan's Labyrinth has been nominated for six Oscars: Foreign Language Film, Makeup, Cinematography, Art Direction, Music (Score), and Writing (Original Screenplay). You should all go see it. I know you don't have anything against subtitles because you watch/watched all that dang anime. Also, The Departed has been nominated for five Oscars: Actor in a Supporting Role (Marky Mark, Mr. Mark Wahlberg), Directing (Martin Scorsese), Best Picture, Film Editing, and Writing (Adaptive Screenplay [apparently based off the Asian film Infernal Affairs]). I told y'all when it came out, "GO SEE THE DEPARTED", and I was right. The Departed is a must see film. The Departed also won a Golden Globe for Best Director. As far as DreamGirls goes, it was nominated for eight Oscars (I'll be surprised if it doesn't win one): Actor in a Supporting Role (Eddie Murphy), Actress in a Supporting Role (Jennifer Hudson), Art Direction, Costume Design, Music (Song [three nominations for three different songs]), and Sound Mixing. Also, I know y'all have probably seen Little Miss Sunshine because I have and Ben has. Little Miss Sunshine has been nominated for four Oscars: Actor in a Supporting Role (Alan Arkin), Actress in a Supporting Role (Abigail Breslin, the little girl), Best Picture, and Writing (Original Screenplay).
Y'all should really check out these four movies: The Departed, DreamGirls, Little Miss Sunshine, and Pan's Labyrinth. These are like the movies of 2006-along with a few others. I think this is the first time I have really been interested in who wins what. I suppose because I have seen all of these and think they all deserve at least some award. I want say who I want to win what, but I'll be checking up on it in late Feburary.
P.S. It's weird. Since I started using my other lj to tell about Japan, I started using this one. I don't know if it's because I'm using the other one too, or if it's because I'm so far away and this is the closest I get to talk to most of you.
