Just have to say: Oh heck yes.
My suspicions were correct, it seems. I hadn't updated the version of Firefox I was using in way too long. Downloaded the newest version, and look at this! Rich text is back and better than ever before (like, seriously? It's checking my spelling like MS Word! Didn't use to do that!)
So... yay!
