Bemanistyle.com is the largest repository for fan-made simfiles, but it is far from being the only such site, nor is it the only site to run simfile-making contests.
DDRExtreme.co.uk is another such site, which is currently running such a contest. As you have probably already guessed, I have entered this contest. DDRExtreme.co.uk's contests work a little differently than Bemanistyle's, however. Each contest follows a particular theme, such as '80's Mix' or 'ChristmasMix', which all entries must follow. In addition, each participant is allowed to enter multiple files, but only one (of the entrant's choice) is judged; the rest simply serve to make the song collection larger and more varied. The theme for the current contest is 'World Tour'. In order to fit with this theme, a song must meet at least one of the following requirements (quoting from the contest rules):
A song about a city or country anywhere in the world (e.g. New York New York). Made-up place names or countries do not count.
A song with lyrics predominantly in a language other than English. A limited number of lines or words may be in English, but the majority of the lyrics should be in the other language.
A song about a particular well-known area, not necessarily explicitly mentioning a city or country (e.g. Land Down Under)
If the song is instrumental, it must be clearly made in a style that is easily attributed to a specific place in the world. Sakura (for Asia) and La Bamba (for Mexico/Latin America) are two good examples of this. A random generic trance song that just happens to have a city or country in the title does not count.
I cannot actually say what my entry is, for this contest requires entries to be anonymous. What I can say, however, is that my entry meets the second theme requirement. Saying this doesn't really give anything away, as the majority of songs on the current registered entries list also meet this requirement. I have started working on my entry. Editing the length of the song is proving to be more difficult than I had anticipated, and I believe the song was recorded with a live (human) drummer, as opposed to a perfectly timed drum machine, which means that properly syncing the stepchart will take a while. So, although the deadline for submitting entries is May 19th, I do not believe I will have time to create any non-judged entries.
