Things Learned (But Not Unchanged) the Hard Way

Oct 02, 2004 19:13

1. If you agree to go out to the "Back Door Vodka Room Upstairs" (or some other site for drinking and merry-making), try to cut yourself off there. After a few drinks and a few hours of fun trickling into post-midnight...GO HOME. Especially if you're a grad student, GO HOME.

2.) Do not attempt to up the ante. Do not move on, after the Vodka Room,
to "Rosie's" --Whyte Ave.'s premier karaoke bar ...to drink the bar dry all the while awaiting the Dj's announcement of the Mayleez and T-Dawg (aka Melissa n' Theo) rendition of... yes, Heaven. ( I was homesick!)

3.) Do not, once the karaoke bar closes, go back to a friend's house, help her finish her Vodka minis and listen to the Rolling Stones until 4 am (resulting in a bed-time of 5 am) GO HOME. Especially if you are a grad student, go home.

4.) Do not try to take a shower after all of this, before bed, for you might end up falling asleep in the shower. Sleeping while standing in the shower is dangerous. And weird. Trust me.

5.) After such a late night, do not try to get up before noon, in order to attend to some really important project-oriented reading. You'll only disappoint yourself.

6.) Whatever you do, DO NOT sit in your apartment's designated "comfy chair" during the afternoon of a hangover for the purpose of reading. The comfy chair never faciliates this process.

7.) While in the comfy chair, trying to read, do not listen to the Smiths. And do not let the rays of sunshine stream in from your big window only to warm your skin like some beautiful, invisible blanket from God.

Fuggin' hell, do not do these things! The sum total of 6 & 7 is falling asleep with your finger wedged in between the book pages as bookmark, some casual drooling, and sleeping.

8.) Do not do these things when you have two big projects due Monday and Wednesday and 40% of your mark depends on it! Especially when you know that you're already going to reward yourself with fun times on the following Thanksgiving weekend in K-town.

All and all...t'was a fun evening.... but these kind of evenings are deadly. I've locked myself indoors and am I re-attempting work. That's right, I am turning over a new leaf (cuz I must move on) by attempting to turn over at least a few pages. Crimeny!

At least I have a pink and orange sunset cast in ribbony streaks across my gorgeous edmonton sky and the close thoughts of not-too-distant reunions with people I love.

word is bond.
