End of Days Travel

ack ack ack I have been procrastinating all day! I really need to study for Contemporary American Lit exam that's tomorrow, but after doing little to no work all semester, I am having a really tough time psyching myself up!

In other news, I just got back from a ton of travel! Last weekend, I went to the Hunter Valley (wine country) with a group of French friends I’ve met here. Although there was severe flooding in the region, we were lucky to have chosen a town on high ground! Over the course of three days, we went to approximately 25 wineries, a fromagerie, and an olive farm. It was truly a weekend of culinary delight! Our favourite winery was easily Mount Pleasant McWilliams, which produced an especially delicious Pinot Shiraz. Another highlight was definitely the olive farm, which played host to a fantastic caramelised balsamic vinegar.

I just returned yesterday from a five-day trip to Tasmania! I travelled with a Canadian girl (Erin) and another American girl (Kim) where we had to bundle up in layers to enjoy our stay- there was actually snow on the mountaintops! After exploring the town on our first day, we ventured out to the Cadbury factory where we felt as though we held the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory golden ticket- tons of free samples and enough chocolate to last us for months! The next day we travelled to Port Arthur, Australia’s most famous penal colony where we walked around the sandstone ruins and took a boat trip out to the Isle of the Dead- an eerily beautiful place. On our last day in Hobart, we went to the Salamanca Market, which is full of Tasmanian delicacies and crafts. In the afternoon, we travelled outside the city to Cascade, Australia’s oldest brewery where we sampled their famous First Harvest Ale and Mercury Cider. The three of us had heaps of laughs while taking in some of the most beautiful scenery I’ve been privy to on this trip. Of course there are photos up at http://picasaweb.google.com/Jewles430.

And now I just have 10 days left in Australia and then 6 in New Zealand! I'm so excited to go home and see everyone!!
