OK, i know it's been a while... So the girl scout thing was the last update. I got a check in the mail for an 'honorarium' (gov't OK'd compensation) that I was expected to be MAYBE $50... try $250!! So that made my day yesterday :)
BACKTRACK. The weekend after the girl scout thing--had a pretty fun birthday party for my friends nick and ben. about 15 people in total came over. the saturday morning, i went to Santa Barbara with Corey, his sister Anie, her bf Vlad, and their parents. His grandma lives on an estate that's about 25 acres and has been in the family since the early 1900s. Ok, so a 25-acre estate is not a common thing. Basically, some of Corey's great (and great-great) grandparents made a LOT of $$. One started Armour meats, and United Airlines, another sold the patent on how to turn oil into gasoline... You get the idea. Back to the weekend. it was incredible. The weather was amazing, the grounds were gorgeous, and lets just say the company was to my liking. :) Saturday night we walked around town, grabbed dinner at CPK, played some games, and i bought a pair of cool earrings. Sunday, we went to an arts festival in downtown SB. It was really fun because Corey and I split off and got to have some time walking around just the two of us. I didn't buy anything, but it was still fun to look around. One of my favorite things was a booth with photos taken of a one-third to half-full wine glass. The neat thing about it was that it captured the background scenery in the water in the glass, but it was an inverted image. I took a replica picture of my own! :) Mostly it was just really gorgeous out, and it's always fun for me to spend time with Corey. We could seriously be scrubbing tires with toothbrushes, and as long as I was with him, I know I would have a good time.
Midweek was pretty normal-work from about 8:30-4:30 everyday. I made dinner for my friend Alex midweek, and we got together a poker game. I won $29! (which has already been spent--i treated myself to a quick lunchtime massage the next day, and went out to lunch twice)
The bed saga for me has continued... last wednesday, the guy who gave Laura the mattress that i'd been sleeping on decided that he wanted to take it back because he "didn't realize how expensive new mattresses" were. I slept on a twin-sized pad thing. ironically, i think it might have been comfier than the mattress! When I got home Sunday night, I had a double-sized futon pad to sleep on! Laura and I are going to actually set up the rest of the futon tonight or tomorrow.
Ok, this past weekend, I took off from work around 3:30, got out to Venice Beach around 4:30, went to this jean store, and was unsuccessful in my shopping endeavors... boo. I headed over to Corey's (took 40 minutes when it should have taken 15. stupid traffic), and we had a pretty relaxed night. Saturday, SLEPT IN, we played some poker, and watched Breakfast at Tiffany's. As I recall, we both kinda liked it. :) Sunday, slept in again, woke up to his very religious grandma being there and needing to get 'presentable' rather quickly... :) hehe Anyway, had lunch with her and his great aunt, and the rest of the family. Anie (his sis)'s boyfriend left thursday for Romania for 3 weeks, so she was pretty sad. I don't miss the ultra-hormonal teenage years too much. Anywho, Corey and I headed over to Malibu (didn't see mel gibson) for a really big outdoor art festival. I bought a pair of pretty pink earrings. After we got back, we played some poker, ate dinner, watched some tv/baseball, and headed over to his friend Jamie's house for poker. Corey bought in for me, cuz he knew I wouldn't play a $20 game :). I lost. boo. I was down to about $13, went all in, and won (doubled up to about $25). The next hand, I got A-K, went all in, and got called (so it's a $50 pot at this point), and the guy who called me had pocket aces. an ace came on the flop, and i was a goner. :( Corey ended up walking away with $135. It was really exciting, because I think there was about $600 in play for the night. Corey's friend Jamie kept betting a 100 dollar bill. Kiinda crazy, but I really enjoyed it. The game lasted till 12:30, and I wanted to stay and support Corey. So I ended up leaving Santa Monica around 1:15, got home at 1:40, and went to sleep by 2. got up at 7 for work, and thus began a week of exhaustion!!!
I only have 9 more days of work including todady. I'm going to TRY and stay on during the school year and work a few hours a week. Yesterday we had a big meeting with 20 very influential people from around LA. We handed out a packet with an agenda, timeline, a few summaries, and an oultine of this project we've been working on. I realized that I wrote every single word in that packet. It was really pretty exciting! :) THe meeting went really well. My boss, Lucy, is the keynote speaker at a Red Cross fundraiser breakfast tomorrow, and some of the Red Cross bigwigs that were at the meeting invited me along. Note the word breakfast. That means morning. It starts at 7:30 DOWNTOWN. That means I have to be in the office BY 6:30 AM tomorrow morning. The Red Cross is picking us up, and if I'm late they're leaving without me. So yeah. getting up at 5 is going to be fun. I think im going to try and go to bed around 9/9:30 tonight so I can get a lot of sleep. Then I get to leave work at 2 tomorrow, I'll run a bunch of errands, and go home and probably nap...
Oh-so its been insanely hot in LA, but the past few days have been totally bearable! We haven't even hit 90!! My muscles were really sore last night, so I actually slept with a heating pad. YOu have no clue how exciting that was for me. Last week I couldn't fall asleep for at least an hour Wed and Thur nights because it was so freaking hot. This morning I baked because i was cold and wanted to heat the house up. And I wanted cinammon rolls. random. but good.
Ok, that's all for now. I need to actually be productive!!!
