ONE.org-- a fight against poverty & aids

CONS
one.org is a good idea. however, it doesn't look at the big picture. more than just africa are in severe poverty. if you look at a world map, many countries in asia are also seriously depraved. in order to fight worldwide poverty, you cannot just target one continent. you must target all countries it pertains to.

PROS
this is definitely the best campaign out there to fight poverty. it doesn't want a donation of money toward poverty--it has plans to allocate it. and the plans are very effective. educating people about health and building up technology, such as sewer systems and such are very important. and this organization has brought a lot of publicity.

because of one.org, at the g8 summit, not only did they decide a large monetary increase, but they also decided to provide medicine for aids victims. but as citizens/residents of the united states, i urge all of you to 1) push for a worldwide aid for poverty--not just africa and to 2) really push for the g8 to provide EDUCATION as one of its primary goals.

education is super important in the fight against both aids, as well as poverty! prevention of aids includes knowledge about condoms and other health-related factors. mothers need to know how to take care of their children. and how to deter the spread of aids. poverty-stricken people must also know about cleanliness and other health-related facts to increase the level of well-being. in addition, education decreases the number of children per household/family, which makes it easier for parents to support. (education also decreases infant mortality rates which is in due part because of health and knowledge of better child care.) education about technology can expedite civilization through the building of better housing, better sewage systems (to increase health once again. a main factor.), etc. education about technology can also increase their crop yields, which leads to better health.

please, this is a plea to get people thinking. and to take action.

if we care so much about the war against terror to make those in the middle east live in a safer, hate-free environment, why can't we make just a little effort to those who cause no threat to us? and are still dying...every day.

i often find lots of good causes to fight for but i never seem to actually voice it. i think it's time for a month long push for good causes.
