Resolutions 2013

Dec 30, 2012 11:47

I think this year I'm going to be very dual about my resolutions - or new habits...  I think I'm going to take something away from my life and add something to my life.

I haven't figured out what I'm going to take away or give up yet.  I'd like to say I'm going to give up procrastinating but I know myself and I think that's a little unrealistic.  I don't know what my average internet time is per day on e-mail or facebook, but maybe I ought to minimize my recreational facebook and internet time to 1 hour per day, even on the weekends.  That probably leaves lots more time for studying and meditating and may help with the procrastination tendencies.   Though maybe I should minimize my TV time.  That's one thing I didn't mention in my YIR entry.  I watched entirely too many tv series.  I think maybe I won't entirely minimize my tv time to a number, but maybe to a day.  Like Thursday and Saturday nights.  That makes sense.

I am going to add meditation or meditative movement to my life every day.  I've decided my best morning would go as follows:
Snuggle with Gen.  Get up and make tea.  Eat a small meal like a piece of fruit or oatmeal or a granola bar. Do one of the following:
Do sitting meditation for a minimum of 5 minutes.  Do yoga for a minimum of half an hour.  Go to the gym.  Make sure at least 5 minutes of cardio is done without headphones or zoning out to a TV.

Resolutions:
Minimize non-school related internet time to 1 hour per day.
Limit TV to Thursday and Saturday nights.
Do 5 minutes of sitting meditation or yoga every (day) preferably morning or go to the gym and spend 5 or 10 minutes without zoning out to tv or music.

One habit at at time, right?

The question will be - what will I do when I instinctively want to go on the internet? What will I do when I want to turn on the tv?
Here are just a few options:
Do a chore.
Meditate for 5 minutes.
Play with a cat.
Do a yoga pose or two.
Sit and figure out what I really want at that moment.
Scan the house or room and take care of trash or things that don't belong.
Play with photos or create more.
Create a beading project.

Other Intentions and Goals for 2013:
Bachelors in Social Work
Master's Degree Progam or awesome job!
Fat loss and muscle gain.
Solid friendships.
Repairing my health
Share a hobby or interest with Gen equally.
Do a minimum half or one day meditation retreat.

I'm hoping that my resolutions which are lifestyle enhancing will set me up for success when it comes to all the other things I usually make resolutions for.  We'll see.
