Polyclay Update

Aug 13, 2009 18:05

So, I spent most of yesterday making some new polymer clay things. A few roses, a couple of lilies, some abstract things for me, and a smidge of dessert. I'm not really happy with the lilies or the desserts; the cookies were just an experiment I've been planning for a while, and the white clay for the lilies just wouldn't behave this time. Plus weird dust and colors seem to stick especially well on white = horrid.

Anyway, I plan to keep working with the pieces though they've been cured. These are all pre-glaze, and though sometimes I do like the matte look, glazing covers a multitude of sins. Plus I feel like it makes them sturdier. So, on to the pictures:

I plan to make the big red one into a necklace for my sister. The rest, depending on how they end up working out in jewelry, will probably wind up in my shop. Unless I give a couple as gifts, or, dearie me, I steal some for myself.

Close-up on the lilies of my discontent:

They are such pains in the rear. And they promise to continue being as such.

My attempt at cookies:

In my gluttony, I probably stuck on a few too many "chocolate chips" to make them look visually ideal. Too bad, though, since they would probably taste delicious. Also, the clay's a bit darker than I wanted, but I got tired of mixing the colors and just went with it.

And on to a few experimental geometric pieces for me:

Well, they're kinda cute, but I'm trying to test if they're functional or not. We'll see.

And a couple of stud earrings:

Yup; my photography definitely was not the best this afternoon. Oh whatever.

So all of that basically took me 8 hours. Sometimes I have to sit here in disbelief, looking at this tiny handful of clay product that comes from my hours spent kneading, working, testing, forming, discarding, recreating, and all of that. Which is why I can't bring myself to have "polyclay days" all too often. Sigh.
