Ok. For the time being I have made peace with the painstix. I have untangled all my yarn and started over on Ed's "manly comfort throw", and in just a few hours am nearly halfway done. I really like how it is turning out too. Should be able to finish. Haven't cleaned up the sewing room to usable status, or made hubby's PAtriots fleece no sew throw, but will work on it during the Pats game tomorrow nite.
Yesterday morning I reminded P that her deadline for her final decision for her Halloween costume was Oct 1. She said she'd decided to be Will from W.I.T.C.H., pictured here
http://pics.livejournal.com/jewells68/pic/0002wtdz/ so I started looking at pics in her books and making plans... mainly clothing reconstruction involving a purple mock turtleneck, teal skirt, and nude stretch fabric sewn into a dress. I was still working out in my head what to do about the striped tights, painted, sewn, etc (after not finding any in the right colors online), while knitting this evening, when hubby asked what she was going to be. Then we were talking about her interest in ancient egypt, and one of us, I don't remember which, mentioned how surprised we were that she had never wanted a costume from that era these last few years, Anubis, Cleopatra, Nefertiti, etc. AT which point she says, "wow, I tnever thought of that. I want to be Cleopatra." Anyway, I tried to make sure she wasn't changing because she thought I wanted her to... She asked what would be easiest, and I told her that she should choose whatever she really wants to be and as long it was ok for school, we would find a way to make it, not to worry about me. So I told her to sleep on it and give me her final answer tomorrow, since that was the deadline. To be honest, Although I did not admit it to her, I really would prefer Cleopatra, but not because it would be easier, more because at least some people will know who she is... Is that bad of me? Anyway, I'm fine to do whatever she wants, and I told her that. So we'll find out tomorrow. At one point she wanted to be a dalek from dr. who
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dalek... now THAT would be quite a challenge, but I think she's forgotten about that. *crosses fingers* Anyway, we'll see what the morning brings. At least there's lots of patterns out there for cleopatra, plus we have the Elizabeth Taylor movie dvd, which has beautiful costumes in it to use as reference.
On a totally unrelated note,
ofenjenalready made P a bday present which she'll get this weekend. Most people I know here also know that Jen is like a sister to me, and E & G are more like cousins than Phebe's real cousins, as they are all in their 20s and she doesn't see them any more often than she does Jen's kids. We have been friends for about 14 years now, I stood up for Jen at her wedding, and well, they are family, plain and simple. I, however, am not as organized as Jen, and I'm afraid I'm nowhere near that point myself, and Gareth and Elena's bday gifts will have to come closer to their bdays, although I have already had some ideas of what I want to do. Anyway, what she made is a totally rockin gift, and I just know P will love it.
And here it is 11pm, and the alarm is set for 4:35 am for a trip to the gym. Better get to bed.
