a few good things are happening in my life (I have approximately 6 minutes to write this)
I recently applied to two summer internships in New York, one in Buffalo and one in Long Island. While actually getting hired for these internships are very small chances, the fact that I applied to them, opened a brand new door, and apparently this door is wide open for me.
I asked Dr. Angelone (my professor I do research with) to write me a recommendation letter for the 2 summer programs. Last week, he was talking to Dr. Kerwin (she is the director of the behavioral specialization I am in), and she told him that the summer programs were excellent chances, but are very competitive and tend to favor their own students. However, they got to talking, and it came up that there was a Research Assistant position available at
TRI, the research facility in which Dr. Kerwin works, in Philly. Dr. Angelone put in a good word for me, and Dr. Kerwin said she knew I was a good student/hard worker, even though she never had me in a class.
Anyway, Dr. A had me call him in his office on Friday (I've never called a professor before), to tell me all about this--he was just as excited about it as I was--and told me that there is a VERY good chance I can get this position. He also informed me that is IS paid, and the person who left is going to Grad School for a PhD!!!
WOW! I still can't believe how awesome this is, seriously. I really feel like the past 3 (actually 5) years of busting my ass to do well in school have actually paid off. Now all I have to do is convince Dr. Kerwin that I am the right person for the position.
I will write more later.. I think Dr. Kerwin is calling me
