Letter (Of Sorts) To Neville, In Ten Points
Oh, talk about wallowing in self-pity. That's what this is all about? Fine then. Let me explain a few things in no uncertain terms:
1. I happen to rather admire your talent in Herbology, I'm frankly crap at it.
2. Don't you dare say you aren't anyone's friend. I can't believe that you believe that. Would I have been this upset about you being so mean to me and my other friends if I didn't also consider you a friend? I don't make a habit of caring what people who aren't my friends think.
3. You can have a backbone without going around deliberately hurting people who would be more than happy to support you and back you up if you would open your eyes and see them. A backbone is about standing up for your beliefs, not about being cruel.
4. I could deal with her Slytherin-ness just fine, except for the fact that this isn't about her. I don't care who else you choose to spend your time with; I care when you start changing who you are to please one person and go around hurting your other friends as a result. Also? Changing to please her isn't "growing a backbone." Not in the slightest.
5. I'm not opposed to sticking up for yourself.
6. What in Merlin's name have I ever done to you?
7. Just because not everyone fawns over you 24/7, Neville, doesn't mean you don't have friends. You do; you've just got to remember that they have lives to live as well. If I got this upset every time Lav, say, abandoned me to the wilds of the internet like she has, I wouldn't have her for a friend much longer. But things like that are no bigger than you make them.
8. Your lack of loyalty and appreciation to and for people who have tried for years to help you out is frankly appalling. Are you really so blind that you don't see any of that?
9. People say mean things. They do things they shouldn't and later regret. All of them do. And you know what? If all you can see is the faults, then you aren't worth our time. And you talk about us slighting you... well, guess what you're doing to all of us right now? If you truly feel that way, I can't understand how you could wish it on another.
10. Make of this what you will. I just felt the need to set the record straight. It's good to get that off my chest.
