At the sound of voices calling her name, the young woman sitting at the window looks up and scowls. She curses the fact that she let that fairy godmother talk her into going to the ball. Once her stepmother and sisters realized how much the prince desired her, making her their marriage pawn became their only priority. They had spent all day bathing, perfuming and preparing her for the wedding, trying to atone for their previous treatment of her. With a last longing glance at the young man working in the garden, Cinderella stands and takes the bouquet from her stepmother while her sisters adjust her veil. As she follows them out of the room, she murmurs, "This isn't the happily ever after I wanted."
