I thought I'd talk about Chuck Wicks today. I haven't posted in forever, and he's got a great voice and is totally gorgeous, and therefore worth talking about.
Well, apparently, he was on the Fox reality show Nashville which I'm glad I didn't watch, because it would have annoyed me that it got cancelled after three episodes. I guess that it would only be fair to say that it didn't do very well. I don't even know what it was supposed to be about. Perhaps about how artists struggle when they go to Nashville? I know it's not easy. And since Chuck was one of those strugglers, it would make sense.
I first "discovered' Chuck Wicks listening as he made an in-studio appearance on one of my morning radio stations to pimp his new single, Stealing Cinderella. I, for the life of me, have no idea which station of course. It was either 1007. or 94.1 but I couldn't tell you for sure. I turned the station there right as he was introducing a song of his called Beautiful Girl. Now, I don't know anymore if I was crazy thinking that was him, but I really am sure it was. My doubts come from it not being on his cd. Maybe it was just a cover. I dont' know. I can't find it anywhere on the web, not even the lyrics. But listening to him sing it live over that radio made me fall in love before I'd even heard his single.
Somehow, I recognized the single the first time I'd heard it, even before it got to the obvious give-away of the chorus. I figured it was, then when the title was in teh chorus, I had a very triumphant "I KNEW IT" moment. If you've never had one of those moments, then you wouldn't get it. I have them all the time when I listen to a song for the first time. It's pretty cool, trust me.
I posted that on Chuck Wicks' myspace once (
www.myspace.com/chuckwicks) and he actually commented back saying he liked it. That's just cool. I don't think an artist has ever commented me before.
I'm not normally the kind of person that goes out and buys cds the day that they come out. I've done it a total of three time. The first cd I bought on debut Tuesday was Hilary Duff's greatest hits. Then, as a huge Josh Turner fan, I went and bought his Everything Is Fine cd on it's first day on the shelves. And in case you couldn't see where this was going, and you haven't been paying any attention to what this post is about, I also got Chuck's Starting Now. I had to con my mom into driving me, and voila, I magically had enough money for that (when she had to give me gas money the same day). We listened to the whole thing on the way home. I pretty much loved it.
The title track is completely incredible. Hell, 50% of the songs I'm mad in love with (the other half I just really like), but I can't really explain what he does with his voice that makes me totally love the songs. It's just so... soulful, I think. If We Loved has this totally familiar tune to it, though completely different as well. Stealing Cinderella, if I'm not paying too much attention, I often find myself thinking "What Brad Paisley song is this?" Chuck definately has a Bradness to his voice, which is great, because I adore Brad Paisley as well.
I'd definately suggest going to his myspace (listed above) and checking out his music. What If You Stay has got to be one of my absolute favorites. And when you see that I actually have good taste in music, go buy his cd.
