Pavi watercolor - 1st attempt

Aug 20, 2008 04:37

The painting is of Pavi Largo, Ogre's character in Repo! The Genetic Opera. It's taken from the same pic as my icon.

This is my first attempt at capturing Pavi, while I have many issues with it, I am fairly pleased considering this is only the 7th or so watercolor I've done.

I am very pleased with how the hair came out, and moderately pleased with the scaring although I need to work on keeping a lighter touch and layering more.

Mixed feelings about the skin tone. Waaay to orange with a lot of pigment, but the paler areas around the scarring look pretty good to me. Another case of needing a lighter touch and more patience. I am still getting used to the medium, but getting there!

Shadow work and the neck and the back of his jaw are horrid... yugh.

I didn't finish the mask, and the shadow in the far eye just looks wrong w/out a black background. That'll be an interesting issue to tackle in future paintings (oh yes, there will be more). Essentially I felt I had learned a lot, and wanted to wrap this one up so I could devote more energy to the next one. I may do a bit more with this though, undecided.

Hopefully y'all won't laugh too much (although I wouldn't blame ya!), constructive criticism is welcome, esp. if you're familiar with watercolor.
