What would be ideal is a system where research is more widely supported and subsidized, lowering tuition requirements at medical schools by spreading the burden around. IE, your taxes are used to pay for your education, instead of equipping American soldiers with foreign vehicles and gear (for one), and suing a doctor is hard enough to discourage those insufferable assholes who just want to make a quick buck.

Also in this utopia, you could:
1) Deny treatment in cases where you can prove that there is no malady, or limit the number of free asymptomatic admissions you can have in x amount of time

2) Still make good money as a salaried physician based on the difficulty and stakes of your specialty, not how big you can make boobs or how many tests you can order before your patients wise up and go to someone else (like the way it is at the Mayo Clinic, eg)

3) See your dying spouse one last time if they happen to be the same sex as you (I'm looking sternly at you, Florida)

The nice thing about American politics is that no issue is ever done. For better or for worse, we'll always talk about it. I think that pretty soon we'll logically have to figure out that we're all acting stupid about it and sit down for a real discussion... and then we can pass a bill that we can all agree to. For the time being, hang in there bud. I'm sympathetic to your situation, and if it makes you feel any better I won't sue you if you ever suture your name into me just to be a dick... but I can't promise that you won't find my name welded onto every car you ever own from that point forward.
